Not broken, perfected.

This broken stone,
fractured by intense pressure,
eroded through centuries,
collapsed and
crushed and
pulverized over eon,
has become home
to this deep valley
and all the life it harbors;
mule deer and elk,
coyote and badger,
eagle and hawk,
squirrel and
goose and
mouse and
mosquito.
Has allowed water
to flow between
its deep fissures
to cool and freeze
even in the heat of August.
Without its demise,
without its downfall,
without its slow corruption,
none of this would exist.
