Life, as Nature intended

A leaf does not absorb
All
Of a drop of rain
It’s glossy surface gathers
Only what’s required
To quench
Immediate needs
It releases the rest
To wash away the dust
So it may receive the light
That feeds the tree
Before spilling down
Splashing and spreading
Knowing the ground
Thirsty to feed
The trunk that splits
To branches that protect
The leaves that spring
Will return
And doing so will
Share
With all that lives
In its interwoven foundation
Each single drop of rain
That falls
